General Information: Weyerhaeuser is searching for a Seed Orchard Manager to join our Southern Timberlands team in Dubberly, LA, located near Taylor, LA in the northern part of Louisiana.

The Seed Orchard Manager is a key leadership position that is part of Weyerhaeuser's Southern Regeneration business and reports to the Seed & Orchard Team Manager. As the Taylor Seed Orchard Manager, you will oversee the seed orchard site’s financial and operational performance, team development and strategy execution to provide a reliable supply of seed.

The Southern Regeneration business is a key part of Southern Timberlands and consists of three pine seedling nurseries and six seed orchards. The Southern Regeneration team produces approximately 180 million seedlings per year.


What We Offer

Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $79,330 - $118,995 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 7% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

Retirement: Employees are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan, which includes a paid company match in addition to our annual contribution equal to 5% of your base salary.

Paid Time Off or Vacation: We provide eligible employees who are scheduled to work 25 hours or more per week with 3-weeks of paid vacation to use during your first year of employment. In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use. We also recognize eleven paid holidays per year, providing a total of 88 holiday hours

Qualifications/Requirements: Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Forestry, Agriculture Engineering, Soil Science or Agronomy with at least 4 years of related experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
Role model of safe work practices and willing to intervene when unsafe behaviors are observed
Desire to inspire and lead a diverse team of people to achieve and exceed expectations
Willing to live within 1-hour of the Taylor Seed Orchard
Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office
Excellent communication, time management and negotiation skills
Solid business/financial understanding including P&L drivers, budgeting, administration, and capital implementation
Experience with tractor/implement operation
Proven experience in situational management, coaching, and team building
Understanding of and commitment to meeting customer value delivery expectations
Passionate about innovation and continuous improvement
Willing to work extended hours during outdoor peak activity seasons, performing work at heights, and in all weather conditions

Desired Qualifications
Background in loblolly pine seed biology and nursery practices
Ability to maintain site equipment
Experience with aerial lift operation
Responsibilities: Lead and influence strategic management activities including environmental, health, and safety programs
Manage site actions within the framework of an annual orchard management plan – orchard establishment, controlled mass pollination (CMP), orchard protection and maintenance activities and cone harvest
Lead and develop a team of contractors and potentially, Weyerhaeuser staff
Manage budgeting, purchasing, site maintenance, and security
Contract administration for key seed orchard activities (e.g., aerial insecticide applications, controlled mass pollination (CMP), cone harvest, and other site maintenance)
Develop facility and equipment maintenance schedules and capital replacement plans
Ensure all required permits and licenses are current to ensure compliance with federal, state, and corporate expectations
Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with other Weyerhaeuser Seed Orchard Managers
Collaborate with Weyerhaeuser’s tree improvement team
Assist in supporting the cone and seed functions at our Magnolia, AR site during peak demand periods
